Connect to my cPanel hosting account with SSH (Secure Shell)

Once you have enabled SSH (Secure Shell) protocol on your paid cPanel shared hosting account, you can connect via SSH using a client. We recommend using:

  1. Download, install and launch the SSH client.
  2. Enter the following information:
  3. FieldWhat to enter...
    HostYour domain name or IP address
    UsernameYour FTP username
    PasswordYour FTP password
    Port22

  4. After entering the necessary information in the SSH client, you will be able to establish a connection to your hosting account.

Note: The SSH client you use will determine the exact steps for connecting to your shared hosting account.

Find your IP address

  1. Log in to your ITEGY account.
  2. Click Web Hosting.
  3. Next to the cPanel account you want to use, click Manage.
  4. Your IP address is displayed in the Account section.
  5. Use your IP address to establish the SSH connection in Step 2 above.

Find your FTP username

  1. Log in to your ITEGY account.
  2. In your My Products page, click the triangle next to Web Hosting to see the list of your hosting accounts, and then click Manage for the cPanel hosting account you want to use.
  3. Click cPanel Admin.
  4. In the Files section, click FTP Accounts.
  5. Each of your FTP account's login/user name displays in the Login column next to the user.
  6. Your primary cPanel user displays as the first account in the Special FTP Accounts section.
  7. Use your FTP Username to establish the SSH connection in Step 2 above.

Change your FTP password

  1. Log in to your ITEGY account.
  2. Click Web Hosting.
  3. Next to the cPanel account you want to use, click Manage.
  4. Under Settings section, click Change next to your password.
  5. Enter a New cPanel Password, and then click Change Password.
  6. Use your FTP Password to establish the SSH connection in Step 2 above.

Note: Changing your FTP username or password can take 2-4 hours to fully process.
